SPRING FORAGING

Monthly recreation opportunities by region

Foraging opportunities may be just outside your door

A great start to harvesting the wild food around you

The outdoors fits into everyone’s life in unique and personal ways, and we here at WDFW want to foster connections with and appreciation of nature and all forms of outdoor recreation through our Life Outdoors resources.

This article focuses on spring foraging opportunities at your doorstep and in the wilderness.

Gather the good stuff

With spring marching on, we want to introduce some wild foods foraging opportunities that might be in your backyard or just a bit beyond. Whether you are out fishing, hunting, or just taking a hike, there are a number of wild edibles that present themselves in the woods and even your own neighborhood that can be brought into the kitchen.

Read our blog for a starting point in working with some of the more common edibles so that you can introduce them to your dinner table. You’ll find photos, culinary uses, safety tips, and more. We cover just a portion of what’s out there, but it’s a great start on the path toward harvesting the abundance of wild food around you:
